The Things You Do For Love
Hi all, My name is Charles( though everyone has changed my name and calls me Chuckie) , my Wife Mommabear is the editor of this fine Blog covering the life and times of our new puppy Leeloo Bear. Mommabear has asked me to contribute to this blog every now and then, giving my perspective on raising yet another large breed dog. Over the 25 plus years Mommabear and I have been together we’ve had a variety of beasties that range from chickens in a pen to bull frogs that ate pinkies (baby hamsters.) At one time we had a family that included 17 animals at once, all of which lived on our property. We’ve had (as I mentioned before) chickens and frogs, we’ve also has birds and hamsters, cats and dogs, ferrets and spiders, turtles and rats…The list goes on. I’m not all that interested in captive animals, don’t get me wrong, I love those that we adopt and I’m a caring naturalist, but I’m more of a fellow who wants to see the animals running wild rather than being caged or controlled. The reason why I accept all of these animals into our home is pretty plain: I love Mommabear and I aim to please her every minute of every day, animals please her, so, I agree to the plethora of beasts that seem to be in an endless supply.
We’ve had some pretty wild animals in our family, at the same time we’ve had some pretty incredible friends from them. Nothing can replace the memories we’ve gathered over the years from the endless supply of entertainment afforded us from our furry (and sometimes not so furry) friends. One main staple added to the family every decade or so is the dog. We’ve had dogs of all sizes and colors, each time we adopt a new one they seem to get bigger and bigger though. Mommabear has an affliction! We started with a small mixed dog that weighed around 25 pounds and ended with Leeloo who has the potential to weigh 170 pounds and stand 7 foot on her hinds. It’s downright amazing to witness a puppy grow and transform into a monster that outweighs you. Our newest attraction Leeloo bear started out at just 7 pounds when we got her and within a few years will probably weigh upwards of 170 pounds. It’s an adventure just finding the puppy you want to adopt, through all of the scams and tricks, through all of the many breeders and mills you have to find that right animal and bring it all together so that you get a healthy pet that will live and love for years to come. Our adventure finding Leeloo bear was no different!
Mommabear, once I announced that we could get a new dog, started her trek in finding a new puppy via the internet, she’s one smart cookie and cut through all the puppy cons and deceits to find Leeloo bear just in time to bring her home in only a few weeks after we saw
her. She was so excited and couldn’t wait until Leeloo was home with us. Every day from the time we visited her for the first time until that day when we brought her home, seriously EVERY DAY, Mommabear mentioned something about the puppy. As a matter of fact, most of our conversations began or ended with a discussion on our newly adopted friend. I love seeing Mommabear excited; she’s like a kid waiting on Christmas, all bouncy and ready to go: yet things escape her only to rear up its ugly head sooner rather than later. Of all the discussions on puppies, Mommabear forgot what actually happens when you bring home a new animal. Through this blog we will document all of those things we forgot about raising a puppy into a dog. So stay tuned and hold on, because we will probably be as surprised as you!
